In 1990, after growing up a dutiful son in a conservative Christian home,  Breanna exploded out of the closet and into a community she had no idea even existed up to that time.  Waiting for her was community and support at Ingersoll Gender Center.  The support groups and information helped Breanna to fully embrace and actualize her identity as a woman and for that she is eternally grateful.  She immediately engaged to return the favor by joining the peer facilitators that have always been the heart of Ingersoll’s support.

SEATTLE — A new development on Broadway between Pike and Pine in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood hopes to serve as a cornerstone for intergenerational care and education among members of Seattle’s LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride Place Construction Updates

It’s been a successful month of construction at the Pride Place project!

We have completed the demolition of the Atlas building, and we have salvaged pieces of the landmark structures that will be part of the new Pride Place. GenPride is excited to have these pieces of history be a part of the new housing and community center.

The project has now moved on to the installation of the perimeter soldier piles.

Tuesday, November 30th, 2021 – Installation of Storm Main & Utility Tie-Ins in Broadway

Utility work will begin end of November and is scheduled to take 6 weeks to complete

Closures will begin at 7AM and Broadway will be fully re-opened at 4PM, daily Monday – Friday.

During the working hours, Broadway will be closed to standard vehicular traffic between East Pike and East Pine. Buses, Streetcar, and bike traffic will remain open during the standard day closure.

Uniform Police Officers will manage the intersections at Broadway/East Pike and Broadway/East Pine to safely detour traffic and allow local traffic through to businesses.

SDOT and Metro have approved a full closure of Broadway between East Pike and East Pine for the installation of the onsite tower crane.

Mobile crane will be staged in the parking lot on the east side of Broadway to hoist sections of the onsite tower crane into place.

Closure will begin at 4AM and will run as late as 9PM. The goal is to have the crane installed and Broadway re-opened early to mid-afternoon, but the closure will run later if necessary.

Streetcar will not be operating that day to accommodate this closure, and Metro bus service will run until 7AM, …

Excavation of the alley will be taking place to the west of the jobsite location to expose the existing Seattle City Light below ground infrastructure. This work is taking place to locate a feasible installation location for the pre-cast concrete electrical vault that will feed temporary and permanent power to the Pride Place building. Alley will be closed from 7AM – 5PM on these days.

PRIDE PLACE, FIRST WASHINGTON LGBTQIA+ AFFIRMING SENIOR HOUSING PROJECT TO BREAK GROUND ON CAPITOL HILL

Seattle, WA (August 27, 2021) – GenPride and Community Roots Housing are breaking ground on Pride Place, a 118-unit affordable housing development on Seattle’s Capitol Hill. The project will celebrate the groundbreaking with an event on September 10th, 2021, with construction beginning shortly thereafter.  

In addition to seven stories of affordable apartments, Pride Place will feature a 4,400-square-foot senior community and health services center on the ground floor, which will be operated by GenPride in partnership with LGBTQIA+ focused service providers. The development plans also include 3,800 square feet of commercial retail space at the street level.
