GenPRIDE stands with Taking B(l)ack Pride.

GenPride stands in solidarity with Taking B(l)ack Pride and the Trans Women of Color Solidarity Network. We encourage those planning on attending or supporting Capitol Hill Pride this year to reconsider based on the events and information available. The recent actions of Capitol Hill Pride are racist and deliberately endanger black trans and queer members of our community.  We fully support Taking B(l)ack Pride and the need for creating safe spaces that center and respect communities of color.

“TAKING B[L]ACK PRIDE is about lifting the voices, narratives, and contributions of black queer and trans voices. It’s about centering who we are and what we need to feel empowered, joyful, and heard.”

GenPride believes that working for equitable changes, including reparations, is critical for our collective liberation. Charlette LaFevere and Capitol Hill Pride’s insistence on a false narrative of “reverse racism” is unacceptable and a form of violence.  If you are just learning about this, you can find more information below including TWOC Solidarity NW’s response, The Audacity of Capitol Hill Pride, and the Seattle Human Rights Commission exchange.
