PILLARS OF PRIDE: Now More Than Ever:

Protect Y(OUR) Future

by Laney Williams

When asked about the importance of the Pillars of Pride event, GenPride’s Executive Director Judy Kinney expresses her love for the community and the dire need to connect with one another, now more than ever. The energy in that room is magic. You can feel the impact, the care, and the deep pride that fuels our work. And right now, when our community is facing real threats, that pride is both our power and our foundation—where we gather strength, and remember who we are and why we are here”.

LGBTQ+ older adults remember the oppression of the past and also the abuse of the BIPOC community and we are a population who is not willing to go back. Pillars of Pride is an opportunity to celebrate our community and re-dedicate ourselves to moving forward during a time when the political climate is going backwards.

This year we are celebrating Pillars of Pride at Axis Pioneer Square. Housed in the historic 1890 Globe Building, it is a dramatic and elegant venue. You may recognize our host, Gaysha Starr from her decades-long, award winning career as a drag performer and activist regularly hosting community events and appearing at speaking engagements. She recently played the character Royal Penny in the Gregory Award-Nominated show ‘Unstoppable - A Queer Dancical’. Don’t miss this event full of wonderful food, beverages, entertainment, an auction and, most importantly, community!

Your support means everything to us here at GenPride and we can’t do our vital work without you.

"This is our fourth Pillars of Pride, and each year it grows in meaning. Honoring eight remarkable elders and one extraordinary organization reminds us what’s possible when LGBTQ+ older adults are seen, supported, and celebrated. It’s not just a brunch—it’s a celebration of history, community, and everything still possible when we lead with love and purpose." – Judy Kinney
