LGBTQ+ seniors from all walks of life, from all socioeconomic backgrounds, from all races and national origins have given selflessly and with intention, have overcome countless obstacles to better how LGBTQ+ seniors age and thrive.

They have paved the way for others to live more justly, to see themselves reflected in initiatives, in social causes, in the arts, in multiple spaces, and in their communities and chosen families.

Building Belonging

This is an LGBTQIA+ senior who has a hunger for connecting with community, and LGBTQIA+ seniors in particular. They bring together all kinds of people, from the youngest to the oldest to help make their community better for LGBTQIA+ folks. They are never one to shy away from introducing themselves to a stranger or being that friendly face that can change a newcomer’s first experience somewhere.

They are the glue that holds their big chosen family together and are always looking for ways to gather people. Be it for food, music, social causes, or just for fun, they aim to make sure their people are not isolated and have a chance to connect with their peers.

Community Catalyst

This senior has worked to challenge the status quo and bring to life radical change within the LGBTQIA+ community and beyond. They have given their time to the needs of others, whether in organizations, mutual aid collectives, or within the many communities they belong to.

They have pursued justice and equal rights for LGBTQIA+ seniors and for marginalized communities, and they have volunteered their time and skills to that work. This senior might have risked their safety in the work that they do or used their privilege and power to uplift those most in need of support.

Iconic Artistry

This senior is an individual in the community who has made art central to their life and the way they express their truest LGBTQIA+ self. They have shown a continued passion and dedication to their art, and have used it to convey their unique path, their reflections on the world, and their vision of beauty.

This is a person that has been sharing their work formally or informally, through any medium. They could be a painter, a writer, a dancer, a poet, an actor - a true creative that communicates their internal world to their community through those artistic channels.
