To help keep your phone or computer secure, it is important to keep your software up to date. Software updates from Apple, Microsoft, Google, and others add protection against new viruses and digital threats to your personal data.

You can check the status of your software by looking for ‘software update’ or ‘system update’ in the settings menu on your device. There will be a message indicating if your device it up to date or if there is a new update available for you to install. If you would like help with this, I can show you how to review your settings or set up automatic updates during our tech assistance hours.

Another way to keep yourself safe while navigating the internet is to manage your account passwords. Passwords can be overwhelming, and while reusing passwords for multiple accounts is convenient it can open you up to some risk. If someone gets access to your passwords they may be able to sign-in to multiple accounts, such as your bank or email. If that happens, it is recommended to reset your passwords so they cannot get access to your accounts or information.

If someone has gotten access to one of your accounts, you are unsure how to reset passwords, or you would just like to learn more about online security you can set up an appointment with me through our tech help registration page: https://genprideseattle.org/tech-lab-registration/

I am here to help you learn more about navigating digital devices and services safely, no matter how much you may or may not already know. Please let me know how I can help you stay connected with your community!

This is my bio, and if you have questions about the program you can email info@genprideseattle.org and the questions will be forwarded to me.
