Scotty & the Secret History of Hollywood
Join GenPride’s Movie Club for a free online showing of the movie Scotty and the Secret History of Hollywood. This lively documentary on the Golden Age of Hollywood focuses on Scotty Bowers, a 90+ year old author of the salacious tell-all memoir Full Service.
With a sex-positive, shame-free, anything-goes attitude, Bowers was way ahead of his time…arranging trysts and erotic flings for many Hollywood stars who had to stay deeply closeted to keep their careers. Join us for a look at a secretive era gone-by and kick-off your Pride Weekend!

It’s the summer of 1984. In the U.K., Margaret Thatcher is in power and the National Union of Mineworkers is on strike, prompting a London-based group of gay and lesbian activists to raise money to support the strikers’ families. At first rebuffed by the union, the group decides to drive to a tiny mining village in Wales in order to make their cash donation in-person.

Come join us for GenPride’s monthly Movie Club with a free online screening of a gay-themed Halloween special: Gods & Monsters, presented by Seattle’s Scarecrow Video, followed by a lively after-movie discussion.
Ian McKellen stars as James Whale, the gay director of the black & white 1930s film classics: Frankenstein and Bride of Frankenstein. Lynn Redgrave and Brendan Fraser co-star as Whale’s housekeeper and lawn boy, respectively.
As the aging director’s memories blur and merge, he strikes up a flirtatious but respectful friendship with the younger man, despite distances of class and years. Nominated for three Oscars, the film won Best Adapted Screenplay! Rolling Stone magazine called the film “…elegantly witty and haunting.”
Friday, Nov 18 | 6:00 – 8:30pm : Movie – Serving in Silence
One week after Veteran’s Day, join GenPride’s monthly Movie Club for the story of a local NW hero who made national news. Serving in Silence: The Margarethe Cammemeyer Story, stars Glenn Close and Judy Davis, who both won Emmys for their portrayals in this 1995 TV movie. Based on the true story of a decorated officer’s struggle to challenge her involuntary discharge from the Washington State National Guard during the dark days of “Don’t ask. Don’t tell.” This triple-Emmy winner production will be presented by Seattle’s Scarecrow Video and followed by a lively after-movie discussion.
Friday, Dec 16 | 6:00 – 8:30pm : Movie – No Ordinary Man, The Billy Tipton Documentary
American jazz musician Billy Tipton developed a reputable touring and recording career in the mid-twentieth century, along with his band The Billy Tipton Trio. After his death in the late 80s, it was revealed that Tipton was assigned female at birth, and his life was swiftly reframed as the story of an ambitious woman passing as a man in pursuit of a music career. The genre-defying documentary NO ORDINARY MAN seeks to correct that misrepresentation by collaborating with trans artists. As they collectively celebrate Tipton’s story as a musician living his life according to his own terms, they paint a portrait of a trans culture icon.
NO ORDINARY MAN features leading voices and breakout stars in the trans community, including Marquise Vilsón, Scott Turner Schofield, Susan Stryker, C. Riley Snorton, and Thomas Page McBee, among others.

This is the NBC live broadcast of the Broadway smash hit, which had its original trial run here in Seattle at the Fifth Avenue Theater.
Based on the original indie movie by gay icon John Waters, Hairspray – Live is a camp, rollicking romp that depicts 1960’s Baltimore through the eyes of plus-size mother & daughter Edna & Tracy Turnblad and the struggle to integrate a local TV station’s teen dance show, beyond just the “nice, white kids”. Knockout performances by Ariana Grande, Harvey Fierstein, Martin Short, Jennifer Hudson, Kristin Chenowith, Derek Hough, Maddie Ballio, and more.

With the 2023 Oscars awards broadcast in March, GenPride revisits the rich, deep film that swept the Oscars in 2017, MOONLIGHT, which won Best Picture, Best Screenplay, and Best Supporting Actor.
— In MOONLIGHT, a young Black man grapples with his identity and sexuality, while experiencing everyday struggles of violence and rejection in childhood, adolescence, and burgeoning adulthood. Blackness, masculinity, and vulnerability are major focuses of this film. Directed and written by Barry Jenkins and co-writer Tarell Alvin McCraney and featuring an all-black cast, MOONLIGHT has been repeatedly cited as one of the best films of this century.
