GenPride, Seattle and King County's resource for LGBTQIA+ Aging, announces the selection of Judy Kinney (she/they) as Executive Director!

“With the anticipated opening of Pride Place and the GenPride Community Center this fall, we are thrilled to start this monumental year with more exciting news,” said Richard Patterson, President, GenPride Board of Directors. “In a selection process that began in late fall 2022, Judy emerged from a pool of national and local candidates as the best person to lead GenPride. She officially begins her leadership journey with GenPride on March 6, 2023.”

Judy comes to GenPride as an experienced non-profit leader and community builder who has devoted much of her career to protecting, supporting, and advancing the well-being of older adults, including promoting the equality, safety, and health of older LGBTQIA+ people.

Judy brings to GenPride a keen business acumen, skillful management of multimillion dollar budgets and a proven track record of increasing fiscal resources through fundraising, grant attainment and partnership donations.

GenPride, Seattle and King County's resource for LGBTQIA+ Aging, announces the selection of Judy Kinney (she/they) as Executive Director!

Having worked in North Carolina, Arizona, and Washington, Judy’s professional journey and service have been grounded in a deep understanding of the multiple challenges faced by elders, in general and LGBTQIA+ elders, in particular. She is deeply committed to DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) and has multiple experiences leading and participating in anti-racism work. Judy has a Master of Social Work from Arizona State University with a focus on Community, Administration, & Program Development which has served her well in her many accomplishments and experiences.

“I am honored and excited to join GenPride as it steps into this next phase of expanding its reach and amplifying its impact,” Kinney said. “It is a significant moment for our region to have Pride Place, the first income-qualifying housing for LGBTQIA+ seniors, and a new and expanded GenPride Senior Center located on Pride Place’s ground floor anticipated to be open in the heart of Capitol Hill in Seattle this fall.”

GenPride is proud to host Pillars of Pride again this year, as an event to honor elders from our community and a fundraiser for GenPride and Pride Place. Pillars of Pride (PoP) is GenPride’s annual celebration, timed to coincide with the 2023 National Honor our LGBTQ Elders Day.

During Pillars of Pride, we take time to recognize our LGBTQIA+ elders who have worked hard to lift our community. This generation of elders fought for and won a tremendous amount of the rights we enjoy today. Without their courage in the face of hatred, discrimination and violence, our community would be very different. We are committed to this being a truly inclusive day that represents the many diverse segments of our community.

This is an exciting time for GenPride, as we prepare for the opening of Pride Place, a new LGBTQIA+ affirming senior affordable housing and community center on Capitol Hill, scheduled to open in the fall of 2023.

GenPride and Community Roots Housing are building Seattle’s first affordable housing project designed to be an affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ seniors. The project will provide 118 apartments, with a mix of studios and 1-bedroom units – as well as a community and health services center.

Our capital campaign seeks to support the purchase and build out of the 4,400 sq. ft. community space, the first of its kind in our community, and the first permanent home for GenPride’s mission. Funds raised through the campaign will support construction of a brand-new community and health services center as well as a transitional fund to prepare the center for the future.
