GenPride at the Movies: Swan Song

August 27 @ 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm PDT

Free

Join us for a free online showing of the newly released movie Swan Song on Friday, August 27 at 6pm, followed by a lively discussion. In Swan Song, a retired hairdresser escapes his nursing home and embarks on an odyssey across his small Ohio town to style a former client’s hair for her funeral. As one of the last surviving gay men of his generation, he confronts the ghosts of his past on his way to the funeral home and shows us that it’s never too late to live again.

Swan Song was written, directed, and produced by Todd Stephens as a heartfelt tribute to an eccentric, larger-than-life hairdresser who left an immeasurable mark on his life. Openly gay actor Udo Kier stars and delivers a remarkable performance as the unabashedly gay Pat Pitsenbarger. Jennifer Coolidge and Linda Evans co-star.

According to Stephens, Swan Song is a love letter to the rapidly disappearing gay culture of America, “As it has become more acceptable to be queer, what used to be a thriving community is rapidly melting back into society.” He dedicates this movie to all those who built this community and blazed the trail for the rights many of us experience today.
